QANTAS is revamping its US strategy, flying to Dallas-Fort Worth, to drive additional business traffic and boost Queensland tourism.
The airline will axe services to San Francisco from May 14 as part of the move and use three-class Boeing 747-400ER aircraft to service the major hub of Oneworld alliance partner American Airlines.
The two airlines intend to apply to regulators to form a marketing alliance similar to the joint services agreement between Qantas and British Airways on the kangaroo route. This would allow them to co-ordinate commercial activities such as fares and marketing in the same way that Virgin Blue and Delta Air Lines hope to do through their trans-Pacific alliance.
Flying to Dallas has been a long-held goal at Qantas because it allows the airline to capitalise on American's biggest hub and its connections to 186 destinations.
