"What a ride. It was hard to imagine what it would be like to sit on the same plane for more than 18 hours and in retrospect it still is....
Right after take-off in Newark I had my seat converted into a bed and slept for a few hours. At that time, I had already been awake for some 22 hours, so the rest was welcome. After I had my dinner for breakfast (the pre-ordered beef), I spent most of Tuesday watching about 14 or so episodes of "The Big Bang Theory" and looking out the window. I should have done some work, but somehow did not feel at all like working. I am on a holiday trip, after all.
I had asian noodles for lunch and salmon for dinner (the salmon was actually a breakfast dish), accompanied by a nice glass of white wine - what a treat. The time difference between New York and Singapore is 12 hours and I was not sure which time zone to follow - so I decided to follow none. Once it got dark outside, I went back to bed; that was somewhere above Kazakhstan. I slept quite well for the second night as well and woke up around 3h15 am Singapore time, some 2.5 hours before landing. I had nice pancakes and Espresso for breakfast and went for a little walk around the cabin. The front section was better booked, I assume that in total there were some 40 guests on the flight (the aircraft has 100 seats). The back cabin where I was seated had the more exclusive touch because only three passengers had to share the seats.
Service onboard the flight was outstanding and the crew did an excellent job. Even though they are on a roster including break times during the flight, this must be a tough job.
Because we did not take the (shorter) polar routing, the distance flown was something above 16,000 kilometers. The choice of route has mostly to do with the jetstreams, I have been told.
Once we landed in Singapore I decided to briefly enter the country and collect the stamp in my passport. I think I was landside (in the country) for about 4 minutes or so. The airport (I was in Terminal 2) has an impressive range of shops. From a Food and Beverage perspective, I managed to take a quick look at a food court featuring asian as well as western brands. "
